F1 Suntastic Yellow (20-30cm): Bushy, early, dwarf variety, pollen-free and long-blooming, producing yellow flowers with dark centres. Widely available. Growing up to two feet in height, Big Smile Sunflowers have yellow flowers with golden centers. The flowers are delicate and as wide as three to six inches across. Plant them in prepared seed beds after all dangers of frost have passed. Ashy Sunflower ( Helianthus mollis) When harvesting multiple sunflower heads for seed collection, place them down individually onto a surface, such as into a box, or onto a large tray, so that they do not cover each other. Paul Bunyan’ sunflower– much like its folk hero namesake, this sunflower will grow into a giant, towering at 16 to 18 feet tall. The deep yellow flowers can reach up to 23 inches across.

For tall sunflowers, be sure to plant the seeds in an area where the leaves of the growing sunflower plant will be in full sun. This means that the plant should receive a minimum of 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Sunlight is required for photosynthesis, which is how the plant is able to grow so tall. Don’t try to grow giant sunflowers in the shade! The young buds of sunflowers move every day from east to west to face the sun, finally settling on facing east when the flowers open.
